President Joseph R. Biden ordered the United States Flag to be flown at half-staff effective immediately and returned to full-staff at midnight tonight, Tuesday, November 29, 2022. This is to pay respect to United States Representative Donald McEachin from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Representative McEachin passed away yesterday, Monday, November 28, 2022. As a matter of protocol, the Maryland flag is lowered to half-staff. No flag may fly higher than the United States flag.

Flag Status Alert: United States Flag and Maryland Flag are at Half-Staff

This is to advise that Governor Larry Hogan ordered the United States Flag and Maryland Flag lowered to half-staff effective immediately and returned to full-staff at sunset on the day of interment (not yet known). This action is in honor of Firefighter Juan Wilson of the Baltimore City Fire Department, who died yesterday, Sunday, October 30, 2022, after suffering a medical emergency while in the line of duty on September 19, 2022.

Update: flags were returned to full-staff at sunset on November 16, 2022.

In honor of Patriot Day, Sept. 11, the United States flag is to be lowered from sunrise through sunset on Sunday, Sept. 11. For state government buildings and other entities that are closed on weekends, it is permissible to lower the flag at 5 p.m. the preceding Friday and raise it the following Monday morning.
