As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on March 27, 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee, President Joseph R. Biden ordered the United States Flag lowered to half-staff effective immediately and returned to full-staff at sunset, Friday, March 31, 2023. As a matter of protocol, the Maryland flag is lowered to half-staff. No flag may fly higher than the United States flag.

This is to advise that Governor Wes Moore ordered the Maryland Flag lowered to half-staff effective immediately until sunset today, Friday, March 24, 2023. This is done in honor of Maryland highway construction workers Rolando Ruiz, Carlos Orlando Villatoro Escobar, Jose Armando Escobar, Mahlon Simmons III, Mahlon Simmons II, and Sybil Lee Dimaggio, who tragically lost their lives during the tragic accident on Interstate 695 on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

This is in honor of former State Delegate Sheila Hixson, who passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022. Former State Delegate Hixson represented Legislative District 20.
